Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Rules For the rest of the Site also accessible on the sidebar.

Not sure if this has been referenced here before, but for those of us who loved the Carpenters, especially Karen's voice, the current collaborations with Tori Holub and James Wilkas are fabulous. It's as close as I could imagine anyone singing just like Karen Carpenter while being incredibly talented in her own right. Jim's instrumentals and video production skills are magnificent.
This version of "For All We Know" just dropped yesterday:

"We've Only Just Begun" has been out for several months:

I listen to the Karen Carpenter channel on Pandora occasionally. It really helps take me back to a simpler time and is easy listening. Well, I only recently learned that “Laughter in the Rain” (that gets played on the Karen Carpenter channel) is NOT a Karen Carpenter song. It is a song by Neil Sedaka. Others have made the comparison, especially with this song.

I’ll have to check these out.
Damn, she’s pretty good. Thanks for sharing.
When I was a child my mom watched The Donagh show, I remember Neil Sedaka playing piano and singing. Such great music memories. The 70s is my favorite music era. One thing you didn’t have to worry about pre 80s music was the bad language. I don’t worry about my granddaughter hearing words a toddler shouldn’t know. We were in a store last week a song came on, shut up and drive, she started saying little louder shut up. Mama quickly told her we don’t say that. Even country music today isn’t safe for kids to hear. You are correct it was a simpler time and I think people were happier or at least not crazy.
