I haven't seen one in person, but I can't shake the thought that the only reason everyone thinks they're orbs is because of how they appear on camera.
To me, it seems like it's not that they're orbs at all. They're just drones, but there's some kind of 'shield' being emitted from them that screws up camera footage.
I saw a video where it started out as an orange orb, then the guy's camera spazzes out and it's this huge orange oval shape with webbing in it. Very similar looking to before the camera spazzed, just much bigger and now oblong. Other videos of orbs looked the same, with that kind of webbed circle of light, but without the blowout when the guy's camera spazzed.
It reminds me of those special clothes celebrities can wear, that white out everything. Something that screws with the camera lens and makes filming it pointless, but more advanced.
That’s my impression also. I have filmed a few and have one video where the appearance is that of a spinning saucer w some sort of webbing like you describe. It convinced me and my 7 y/o son and his spend the night buddies that aliens are real/present (lol) but my wife said it looks like a light beam at a far distance. I like how you describe it like some sort of shield, bc I get that same impression. The shield could just be light beams, I.e. no matter what angle it’s just like filming into a spotlight…nothing really shows up. I could go on and on been observing for couple months.
In person, from the ground view, off camera, they look more like 3 lights in a triangle formation, but I can’t capture this on camera. I’m sorta off the beaten path, so it sort of surprises me how many I can identify regularly.
They are only "orbs" because dumb people have never used a camera before, or know what "out of focus" means.
Literally every single "orb" is just an OOF image of light in the distance.
There's a meme of someone taking a vid of their Xmas tree and making camera lose focus, and all of a sudden it appears to be hundreds of "orbs" on screen. But you know you're just seeing a Christmas tree
edit:
I saw a UFO about 20 years ago. It was an "orb" in the sky - just above the horizon, very large, a giant oval, flying at low speed at dusk. I thought it was a blimp or such - but 3 bright glowing lights (smaller craft) flew out of it and took off elsewhere. Most bizarre thing ever. Probably some sort of military weapons, but unlike anything I've ever seen. No photos or video of this, I saw with my eyes.
The one I seen was oval and it was an illuminated orange color it's was gigantic huge. At a distance I could tell it was very large it would take 10 minutes to walk from front to back most likely if it was on the ground

Just my two cents.

Literally just out of focus images of any sort of light.

Mine also looked like an illuminated orange or reddish color - it was right at sunset so I did not know if that caused it. It was glowing.
