Flying cars will not be flown by their passengers. They will either be remotely controlled or most likely automated. The capability already exists and is more robust than you would believe.
Edit: FAA is already working on regulations for certification for these types of operations.
I knew automation would be part of it. Either way, I'll stay on the ground and and continue to change course every time i wind up in traffic with a self driving cab. Those things make me nervous.

Exactly. Flying cars = bad idea. Most drivers can't handle rules of the road, with lanes. Yet they'll manage free airspace? I'll go hermit instead.
