it's important that this be the one case that sticks - that way any member of congress whose office paid with a non-disclosure settlement and did not report it as a campaign donation, is guilty of a felony.
Can you be serious? This is a complete mockery of law and justice and should never be upheld---or anyone could be charged with federal felonies arising out of state misdemeanors, and found guilty of unspecified crimes on the strength of a majority of the jurors.
Address the original point made by the person to whom you are replying. They are saying that this sets a precedent to break NDA
I did address the salient point, which has nothing to do with NDAs. There is nothing wrong with NDAs and I see no reason to break them for the satisfaction of partisan political tactics.
At their core there is nothing wrong with NDAs, although that doesn't mean NDAs can't be unethical.
An NDA to cover up crimes, or an unfair length of time etc.
I'm sure with Congress there are a lot of crimes covered up.
if this case is dismissed or closed, all the non-disclosure settlements by congressional offices will never see the light of day. If he is sentenced to be served after he leaves office, half of Congress is vulnerable to immediate replacement and prison. Take your pick.
Sorry, but you underestimate the bad results of an atrocious "conviction" if allowed to stand. You are being seduced by the desire for victory to throw law out the window.
How do you figure that? This is a civil case in the New York courts based on New York laws. Civil case means nothing to do with any sort of criminal charges, New York laws means not federal.
