Yikes! why do they do that to themselves. It makes them look like cattle.
People are always trying to be different from other people nothing too see here.
I used to tell my youngest daughter when she wanted a tat or piercings or to shop at Hot Topic that her attempts to leave the herd and be different simply led to a different herd and one that is less socially viable. I told her if she really wanted to be different than the herd that she must stop focusing on outward appearances and look within herself. While the other kids only cared about was what others think and shocking them, she should care about what she thought and shock people with her competence.
Id also give her that quote, 'If You Are Not a Liberal When You Are Young, You Have No Heart, and If You Are Not a Conservative When Old, You Have No Brain'
It mostly worked and I saved her from the outward markings of mass manipulation. She is still a liberal though. Im working on that and we have found some common ground. It was tricky when she was still a 20 something, but now at 37, a wife, mother and homeowner, its becoming easier.
