Sometimes the devil will tell the complete truth, knowing you won't believe him.
That in itself is a form of deception.
I think a common tactic is to have people (their people) make completely outrageous bunches of claims, or lists, where a couple of those things, or items on a list, are demonstrably false, so that they can claim it's all false.
