You're welcome! It was very handy here for the Davis Fire last year. And when Washoe County texted out "EVACUATE NOW!" to everyone for the Callahan Ranch Fire. Those who did not immediately panic checked the app and saw we were nowhere near the Evac zone.
I think you mean the Cedar Fire in 2003--I worked in Solana Beach at the time and our school closed for a week due to smoke from the fires inland.
It was the 15 freeway that was crossed, I think. The 5 freeway runs parallel and closer to the coast.
But your point is correct--we had some terrible fires 20 years ago and no brush clearing since with lots and lots of development. The area close to this fire used to be a big golf course--demolished to build homes in the last couple years.
Everyone needs to report burnable brush. I just reported a 4 mile stretch along the 710 freeway that would make an easy fire to take out more beach cities.
So the OMG story about the Syrian cell phone and the texts about San Diego is something?

They are getting it knocked down quickly--fast response and light winds. Yay!!

Evacuations of homes and shelter in place schools right now. This is very close to the FWY -- easy arson?
Thankfully light winds now. The Ceder Fire in 2003 burned close to here in Scripps Ranch.
This is an upscale area north of the city of San Diego--oh my.
I see this from my house
I think they are working hard to contain it--
Stay Safe!
Do you do the Watch Duty app for fires?

Thank you! I did not know about this. Very helpful--San Diego Fire Dispatch is where I go locally, and it gives almost no info.
Thanks!!!!

Rancho Bernardo ain't no Pacific Palisades.
And it's quite dry in RB, so they do get fires.
Hope everyone will be safe.
Perhaps not in the scale of homes--but it's hilly and dry brush.
It sure is. Some years ago the fire from that area got so large it jumped the 5.
That is like a 100m jump. Maybe even more.

I am conflating two fires, correct. Sorry for my mistake.
no apologies--we've had so many fires here in San Diego, it's hard to keep it straight. I've been here 67 years and I've seen too many.
Confirmed. I-15.

"A few years ago" and it happened in 2003. I must be living in a time vortex... Sigh.
I know...
I find the days are long but the years fly fast!

Keep in mind that San Diego is slotted to become a smart city as well as LA.
Yes, this-- also, San Diego is a sanctuary city and governed by a cabal of leftist liberals

Fire is contained and evacuations lifted....
Yay--Great news! Thank you San Diego Firefighters and Cal Fire Crew!
