I think you're misunderstanding the context. It's "sudden" because not everyone that was fired was was prepared for it to actually happen, so punctual that they got hilariously trapped inside (of course intentional), not that it wasn't planned as such.
Don't now how this decision can be called "sudden" when he announced on January 10th the following:
National Security Advisor Mike Waltz Will Fire Entire National Security Council Effective 12:01pm 1/20/25 and Start Over With New Trump-Aligned Staff
