Watching this POS stagger up to the democrats, shaking their hands whilst ignoring JD who got the job done was a staggering display.
He needs to pay kicking him out would be a nice way to end him.

NO. Not until KY has a republican governor, or Cocaine Mitch is up for reelection.
If we somehow force Mitch out, the DEM gov of KY gets to replace him and will do so with a full-on democrat. Mitch will still vote red sometimes (like he did for Kristi Noem for DHS).
Thune needs to neutralize Mitch by removing him from all committees. Then we have to wait until his next election or he strokes out and dies. That would prompt a special election.
The good news is - his term ends on 1/3/2027. There are a LOT of senators that should be primaried in the 2026 election.
Here is the list of all senators for that round:

People in those states need to get to work now. Kentucky, Maine, South Carolina - looking at you. There are more on the rep side but these are the most important. The dem side is full of them.
Agreed! As much as I'd like to see Sen. Rand Paul be the senior senator of KY, not until the governor is a Republican or a Libertarian do I want Mitch out.
As per my above comment, KY law changed in 2021 and the governor has to choose from three people selected by the KY Republican Party. The law was basically changed with McConnell in mind (it was basically his idea).
I saw and responded to that after I did my first comment.
Here is what you should have posted:
https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/record/24rs/hb622.html#:~:text=Amend%20KRS%20118.720%20to%20require,in%20the%20office%20of%20United
After the 2021 bill to which you referred passed, the gov said he likely would not honor it because it was an unconstitutional restriction on the governor's power. A new, more reasonable one was introduced in Feb of 2024 that forces the same treatment as currently happens with a representative that steps down or dies. The bill was popular, passed both houses, and was of course vetoed by the dem gov. Both houses ended up overriding the veto and it was passed to the SoS as law 3 days after the veto was overridden.
Note - the procedures for replacing a representative versus a senator were different because before the 17th Amendment the governors chose them for their states. After the 17th, the people vote for their senators just like their representatives. I'm not a fan of the 17th because it would be far easier to remove senators by electing the right governor than it is to overcome lobbyists, cheating, and machine/mail-in voting scams.
Bill is here: https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/recorddocuments/bill/24RS/hb622/bill.pdf
It requires a special election. It does not allow selecting 3 people from the republican party. That 2021 bill was idiotic, and I don't believe it could be found constitutional. Hence HB 622 in 2024.
