Some comedian had a great point, that instead of just "R" or "D" next to their names, they also have to publicly display every corporation that has ever donated to their campaign on their suit jacket, like a race driver's sponsors. The right path is to limit the scope of government to law enforcement (which includes national defense and border security), overseeing natural resource access, and managing natural monopolies. If you get the government out of the businesses of health care, education, retirement saving, charity, etc, then the companies involved in those industries would have no reason to bribe politicians or bureaucrats.
