Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Rules For the rest of the Site also accessible on the sidebar.

Have you ever noticed your skin smells different after being in the sun, for a good amount of time? I’m sitting catching up on here, had hand at my face & I could smell the scent I used to smell when I got out of the tanning bed. I always thought that scent was from tanning lotion. Guess not, I don’t have anything on my skin other than that plant based completely natural soap I use. Nothing important just wanted to share. Over twenty years we have been told how bad the sun is for our health. Mostly the concern is skin cancer. I don’t believe that! I don’t even believe the sun gives us wrinkles. I’ve been a sun worshipper most of my life from teens till about four years ago. I’m trying to get back in the sun more. I just got a lot of wrinkles in the past year and I think it’s more to do with my age, older women get the more dryer our skin gets. I’ve moisturized it to death, gotta come from the inside. Another thing, if the sun is toxic? Why don’t animals get skin cancer?
The weather is nice today in the high sixties so I sat outside facing the sun about an hour. Trying to get any bit of spring I can, it’s going to rain most of the as well as temps dropping.
Kinda posting as discussion or observation
Hey you,
I have been using this beef tallow balm for 1 week now and I must say it works a miracle. My hand was really chapped from handling papers , dried it up till I had red blister looking it was awful and I used this brand Sadoway: beef tallow for skin and now my hand almost looks as good as new. I also use it on my face and neck. I thought we just needed to hydrate, cut out carbs, but this one seems to be working externally. And the price is also reasonable $9.49. just a small jar but it's so rich in tallow you only need to use a little and it's greasy
I agree about the sun. I try to soak in as much sun in Summer time but Winter can get a little depressing..any amount I could get would cheer me up immediately.
I honestly don’t think I’ve seen the sun in two weeks or more here in the Midwest. It’s been very depressing. When I mention it, people look at me like I’ve said something wrong or I’m crazy, because they realize they haven’t noticed it themselves. It’s become normal for most. It’s not normal.
Really? That's not normal at all. It must be very depressing. In NJ, east coast, it's almost sunny in mid 30s, 40s all the time and we finally got some snow yesterday but the sun's out again today.
Hey yourself👋🏻 I’m glad the tallow works. I just ordered some tallow with frankincense essential oil, along with some other skin loving goodies. I’ll check your’s out next time.
U/moodyblue I just noticed I never responded to you a couple times. I used to be the same with Lavender. I think it was the synthetic smell of it that turned me away. Once I started using a good quality lavender and growing my own and rubbing my hands through it all summer I learned to love it and it no longer gives me headaches. And thanks for linking a Trump interview for me. You are always helpful....it’s appreciated.
I have the most perfect video to go with your comment about sun. He begins discussing how incandescents are back!!! I am elated about this win. I’ve always made sure to not have LED in my home. He also talks about how light is healing and gives an incredible recommendation of books on the subject. I am now planning to make my own light therapy box. I will link a website he mentions. It’s about 38min. Totally worth the time.

And...the video. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ozInNWf0cD0
No apologies necessary. I forgot sometimes to reply and sometimes I reply twice🤦🏻♀️ Your welcome on the Trump link, I don’t even remember what it was. Now if the sun could heal forgetfulness. You never know with he😆 Thanks for the link & video, I’ll check it out. I’m interested in the light box you are going to make. I do think not being in sunlight and outside is bad for us. Speaking of LED, I think we would be with candle light other than the threat of burning down our houses. I can’t imagine it today with so many people that are careless. I won’t even leave a curling iron plugged up. It amazes me how people could read by candle light. I need football stadium strength to read, not literally but a bright light. I’ve lost the battle with LED lights. My husband replaced ours years ago. The only advantage, they say, is not having to replace bulbs. But yet we are buying bulbs and storing them in the closet. I’ve read they cause cataracts. I don’t if it’s true. I had cataract surgery in both eyes last year. I believe it was from cortisone epidural injections though. The eye doctor confirmed it. He said it won’t bother my eyes now. IDK, but if I need an injection I’ll get it. My doctor doesn’t allow more than four a year, doesn’t matter if it’s joint/spine or in muscle. I walked around in pain almost two years and got injection in pelvic bone. Wow, it was incredible. Thanks again for the info.
I watch a video a long time ago saying the sun will actually heal most skin cancers … not melanoma
Interesting thanks for sharing
The sun is not our enemy, it’s the sunscreen. It is covered in toxins. Of course we have to know when it’s time to go inside for the day. I’ve read as well that eating a lot of greens helps to keep skin cancer away.
Interesting on the greens. Certain foods keep you from burning. I can’t remember them all, one was tomatoes.
Yes and the greens do as well.
