Elon Musk put a chip in this paralysed man’s brain. Now he can move things with his mind. Should we be amazed - or terrified?
An accident left Noland Arbaugh paralysed, but Musk’s Neuralink brain implant allows him to control computers with his thoughts. Is it a life-changing innovation that could help millions – or the start of a dystopia where a billionaire can access our thoug...
I have a daughter who was in a car accident, about 10 years ago at age 24, she broke her neck at C5, that's only movement of your upper shoulders and above, she only frayed her spinal cord and is now 10 years later able to sorta feed herself, had she severed her spinal cord she would never have been able to recover to the point she has, only be able to shrug for the rest of her life. can you imagine that happening to you? would you maybe chose a brain implant to give you at least some freedom to interact? I would have given anything for her to have some form of life even if it included an implant only to run a computer with, hearing her plea for death at first was a heart break I could wish on nobody. she broke her neck C5, she broke her lower back, broke all her ribs on both sides, her sternum, collapsed both lungs broke her pelvis/hips and a few other minor breaks... while were on this topic about 9 years ago they tried an experiment on a fella that had a severed cord C5 where they put a jumper wire between his severed cord, they had no faith it was going to do anything but he surprised them with new movement, got control of his bowels, could get an erection, started arm and leg movement, it was unbelievable improvement, eventually working with weights machine... they decided to do i think it was seven more men... same phenomenon happened. I tried to get my Daughter on the list but at the time it was only for complete severed cord patients. , they learned your spinal cord can be RE trained, before they thought one area of the cored formed one type of function only, but learned the spinal cord can be retrained for other areas... with lots of hard core physical therapy. however there is another problem some people with spinal cord injury face, it called autonomic dysreflexia, this is where your autonomic nervous system will for instance, your sock is to tight, causing discomfort, your autonomic nervous system is trying to tell your brain fix me, but of course the message is not getting through the severed or frayed spinal cord, this causes the autonomic nervous system to go haywire causing constant massive constant nausea and vomiting, for her it was for days, nausea and vomiting, she was literial starving to death. blood pressure escalated or plummet which could cause a stroke if to high or heart attack if to low with many other possibilities in-between, sad thing is its so rare the emergency rooms which is where they tell you go immediately usually doesn't know what to do, Yeah! they even have a card to alert them , my ex-wife had sat in the emergency so long at times she would go home and come back several hours later and the staff didn't even realize they had even left!!! I had to freak out until a Nune from administration would finally come so I could explain the serious emergency which would help for that hospital for a while, this was Redding Ca Mercy... they use to think it had to only do with a harmful stimuli reaction, but now think it could also be from a pleasurable sensation as well. one would think the cord is severed how can any body survive? its because of the autonomic nervous system controls your organs thank the heavens for this two part nervous system as without it everyone who has a severed or frayed spinal cord injury would die instantly... well if you have Autonomic Dysreflexia you have an added battle to face, my daughter has an extreme case of automimic dysreflexia that was and is so bad that she couldn't perform any of her physical therapy which is the only way to even get a remote semblance of a life back. all I'm saying is I would have given anything for her to regain any form of life and to think of a brain implant would have helped, if is she agreed I would have jumped on it,
"I have a daughter who was in a car accident"
God bless you and your family.
Thank You Ashlanddog, very much appreciated, I know I drifted in the post some however my point was supposed to be that if anyone was in that position of total incapacitation they would dream of any type of improvement including a brain implant to be able to better communicate, interact with a computer and have something to do with there time in such a state, I do understand the transhumanist agenda and argument but just wanted to show examples from the potential other side of the argument. thank you for your sentiment, And God Bless you as well, Thank You! And there is no cure for cancer?
"And there is no cure for cancer?"

some tidbits to ponder. brain implants have a little problem that is generally not in public scrutiny. the implant physical connection to brain tissue results in something akin to localized scaring which, over time, eventually breaks the connection. the disconnect is permanent. much research is ongoing to resolve this "problem", the problem is persistent.
" the problem is persistent."
Galatians 6:7
King James Version
7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
I get what you're saying but also lol @ peppermint
gotta love spell check. musta been a scar in the neural net.
How about both. In the wrong hands, or with the blessing of healing. The path of good intentions.
We're on the way to transhumanism. Who wants to live forever? Gen. 3:22 And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” 23 So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden.

God sees...
...and remembers.
That is cool. I don't see how this is a bad thing for society or have negative impact on society. Unless we're thinking about how a chip in the brain makes a person semi robotic or how a chip in a normal person's brain can Idk.. make them less human and everyone will want it- to have AI brain, higher IQ, photographic memory, then I guess it can be scary because even now people do plastic surgery to improve their beauty, imagine if you offer them something to enhance their brain power.. yeah that could become scary I suppose.
"yeah that could become scary I suppose."
...one more step in the process to replace our Heavenly God with an earthly one I.e. man...
What if we're faithful and know to stay away or know the difference and do not worship those..only use it as a form of assistance, because even now there are people who worship plastic surgeries and technologies but we know better and many do not get plastic surgeries or only use technology like computer and internet as a mean, like we're doing now?

Second chip will be for use of limbs.
I remember Christopher Reeve saying he prayed for such technology. As do millions of damaged people today.
