Exactly. I've heard many people who are always against CRs say they decided to vote for this largely because those are the General's Marching Orders.
The best explanation I have heard is the following:
"I'm normally against CRs because I want to stop the spending. I can't justify passing CRs when we are doing nothing to stop the government waste. This time is different, though. What I see Trump and Musk doing with DOGE, I realize for the first time they are identifying massive areas of fraud and government waste and they are shutting it down. We need the government open to continue going after all of this wasteful spending. Since Trump is going after all this government waste I am in favor of the CR so they can continue the mission."
That’s a great way of putting it. I appreciate that he’s a purist, but we’re st war, and you need to be able to translate a wink and a nod from the good guys every once in a while or you’re useless.
