The definition is missing a KEY element in cognitive dissonance:
It's that the person with cognitive dissonance had to SUFFER to learn the first thing they know. The suffering is the thing they can't let go, because its a sunken cost. They are clinging to the tribulation they had to undergo to learn the thing, and to change what you know means that all of your suffering was for NOTHING.
That is why it's better to let go of the pain, rather than cling to it. It's a hard lesson in life, and most won't face it, which causes a lifetime of bitterness and suffering. Also, hurt people hurt people. Do the math.
It is better to communicate on the meta level. Evil is bad. General patterns of authoritarian, or socialism to communism.
For example my girlfriend sides with white hats while watching x-files, Babylon 5, good vs evil showing where good guys win. She understands concepts related to those shows but does not see it in the media and DNC.
Last night we talked about propaganda related to a movie; but kept it to the most general of concepts not current politics.
Let me tell you a story. When my DH and I were first married, we moved into a rental house for a couple of years. The house sat alone on a corner lot, with no next door neighbors. There was some kind of energy in this house, that we couldn't explain. We couldn't keep pictures on our walls, we would come home to them all on the floor. We would wake up sometimes with all our food on the counters. A couple of times our freezer was open, and the freezer food was on the floor.
We would tell people about it, my parents thought maybe friends were breaking in to prank us. But, it would have been a 2 year long prank. On anther occasion, our last name was written on the wall in the laundry room. In crayon! A neighbor we had never met, because there was a huge empty lot between us, came over one night and asked us if "strange things" ever happened at our house, because they were happening at their house.
We eventually bought a house and moved. Our rental house was torn down and the college put in a parking lot.
My sisters were very familiar with this story and this house. We had talked about it many times. Then, last year, I went to a BBQ with them. A guest started talking about 9 11 and what bs we were fed. Both my sisters would not engage, but made it clear to all that this topic made them angry. The moral of the story is if someone is telling you a story that makes you mad to hear, you are probably brainwashed on the topic.
It's fun to instill Cognitive Dissonance in GAW readers, because they fancy themselves as alternative thinkers. But how much mental flexibility is lost when becoming entrenched in a singular position?
How many times have users here heard "The CIA killed JFK"? Many.
How many times have users here heard "JFK faked his own death"? None.
If we are being honest, most people in today's society are incapable of critical thinking nor are they capable of challenging their own beliefs. People are hypersensitive and become ultra-defensive when put in a position to reevaluate what they believe when presented with new information. The brain definitely prefers comfort over absolute Truth.

Couldn't agree more. Our society has trained us to prefer comfort and snap judgment at all costs. And that cost is being stuck under illusion after illusion.
To even begin understanding the truth people have to be
► smart enough to reject the narrative (Normies get stuck here)
► logical enough to reject tinfoil (Alex Jones fans get stuck here)
► malleable enough to change their mind about preconceptions they have (GAW get stuck here)
► obsessive enough to see it through till things actually make sense
I briefly looked at your comment history. There will come a time where the pursuit of absolute Truth will brush up against your Christianity. I must ask, which side will win out?

I never heard about the suffering aspect.
Can you give an example?

Painfully slow but all I can do at this point.

Wow.. You make a good point.
According to this definition, every religious person suffers from cognitive dissonance.
Every person. It's universal to the human experience.
Agreed. We all look of evidence that proves us correct and ignore what does not.
Great meme ...
But I guarantee some are asking HOW to wake up, to themselves.
THAT'S the real part that's missing...
People need guidance - if they ask. Few are ready.
