Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Rules For the rest of the Site also accessible on the sidebar.

My local discount grocery chain has Hillandale extra large eggs for $3.99/doz, didn't mention any limit.
I remember back in 2018 or so paying $0.33/doz at my local Aldi's. Those were the days!
I just walk out to my chicken coop. It's awesome how many friends and neighbors are asking me for advice on gardening and raising birds now. I want to get a Jersey cow next and start making my own dairy products but that's some next level commitment. I just keep laughing when the cabal has another idiotic scheme backfire. I have 7 hens and they produce enough that the extra eggs sell for enough to a small circle of frens to break even on feed. So much more nutrient rich, higher in omegas and taste better than anything in the store.
I've thought about backyard chickens for eggs and meat. I only have barely a 1/3 acre lot including house and SpouseAnon's health problems take up much of my time. Maybe someday, sigh....
Good luck with the cows. If I could I'd have dairy cows and black angus. Steaks on the hoof at the ready would be awesome! :)
I had less than a 1/4 acre in the city when I started my first bird operation. 8x6 coop and 6x20 yard on the side of my house.
Well, that gives me hope I might one day have a paltry poultry plot of my own!
