I don't know how that went. The French Monarchy was our ally to the end of the War for independence in 1783. But when we were getting under way with a new government, the Monarchy was overthrown in the French Revolution, 1789-1799, and there was the Jacobin government to deal with (which the Democrat Party admired).
The story of the Statue of Liberty is interesting to read. It was taken as an inspiration to the French to throw off the Second Empire under Napoleon in favor of a Republic under Liberty. (I disregard the nonsense about it being a work of Satan.) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statue_of_Liberty
According to John Marshall in his biography of George Washington, the French interest was to block the forces of Great Britain. Although they had surrendered Quebec to Great Britain, France still had the great territory of Louisiana.

I think the French helping 🇺🇸 win independence had a lot to do with their centuries of fighting 🇬🇧
