The animation for KoKo the Clown was rotoscoped from film images of Cab Calloway, as I recall the story (i.e., traced over Calloway's movements, frame by frame). Despite the seeming simplicity of the characters, the animation by the Fleischer studios was very adroit. The background of the Mystery Cave wall is an example. The studios also produced the Popeye and Superman cartoons.
Thought you guys might want to revisit this/watch it if you have not seen it.
I'd never actually watched any of the Betty Boop cartoons, before. Quite interesting. Excellent quality that's ne'er repeated in today's works.
Cab Calloway, though, I'd heard lots of his music, having been an avid swing dancer for a decade.

Thx for sharing, it's definitely something I need to review more.
If you add up the numbers on each the two dice on the ground inside the Mystery Cave, you get 8 and 8. Two crazy eights.
The magic mirror turns the "clown" into a "spook."
