US been offered more bases as they see fit. US has had a presence in Greenland from post WWII. They left many years later and left behind a heck of a mess damaging the fragile artic land.
They never gave a crap but now after resources are confirmed all of a sudden they 'need Greenland' for national security.
I am Hard core pro Trump but this is BS or there is something we missed or not being told.
Bad ally he says. Hmm just asking, How many operators here has been trained by Danish frogs or para ?
JD’s got a point—Denmark not doing its fair share and is leaving the USA vulnerable from attacks through Greenland. Greenland’s a big deal, and if they’re not pulling their weight as an ally, someone’s gotta take the reins. Sure, the US had bases there post-WWII, and yeah, they left some mess behind—fair to call out. But now, with resources on the table and security in play, it’s no surprise Trump’s eyeing it. Strategic moves, not just charity! I’m all for Trump’s bold calls, even if I’m not American—respect the hustle.
I grew up there. It is a unforgiving land. The coast is the only bare ground. SW 1/4 is where most live. NW is where Thule air base is located and a few people live.
This is the ' nice ' area's to live in. The SE not bad, the E,NE,N,NNW pretty well inhospitable and living there would present huge challenges.
Mechanical equipment Will break down so transport will have to be done ' old school ' way.
Link to a specialized unit patrolling some of the most inhospitable parts of Greenland.
Denmark as far as I know have never objected to US setting up bases. Heck, for years Denmark paid the local cleaning staff.
I still say there are other reasons for this move as clearly it is not a military personal/presence issue and therefor not a national security issue. Follow my thinking ?
The U.S. has always been there through the cold war. There is an radar early warning system at the former Thule AFB (new name). The other bases were left over from World War II, presumably for ferry flights to Europe. Where we liberated Denmark. The "fragile arctic land" is mainly rock and ice.
All of a sudden? We had sleepers at the wheel in the presidency for generations, and now we have Trump. He sees things that should have been seen before, but weren't. If you look at a North Polar map, many things become clear. Not so much on a Mercator map.
SORRY JD but What a load of crap.

I assume there’s something more to all of this

I agree. This flies in the face of Trump's nationalist ideology. There has to be something we aren't being told.

We've known about the resources for decades. This is about timing.
