This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.

My brother came to visit this past weekend and we got to talking about politics. He leans very left and we don't see eye to eye on pretty much anything. He has been living overseas for almost 20 years and he doesn't see the things going on here. He thinks the crazy stories about immigration and fraud are all fake and the corruption in government is not that bad or just isolated to a few bad spots.
I don't know where he gets his info but he repeats a lot of MSM talking points and when I tell him how it really is he just laughs and brushes it off like a joke. I sent him a few links but he won't watch videos, says he doesn't care enough to devote so many hours to watching interviews and commentary. If I send him articles he says its just opinions. I gave him a book last year about how the jab was killing people and the numbers didn't support the official narrative - he said he would be embarrassed to be seen reading it on the plane.
This weekend the conversation was mainly about DOGE and the deportations. He says he's very concerned and heard at least TWO cases where innocent people were deported just because of a tattoo that might be gang-related, and everyone, even illegals, should be entitled to an individual hearing to determine if they should be deported. He doesn't believe that illegals who are murderers and rapists are being let out without bail, or that TdA is really so dangerous, or that it all might be a coordinated effort to undermine national security.
He doesn't like that DOGE is shutting down agencies without consent from Congress, that Elon wasn't confirmed by the senate, and thinks the claims about social security fraud are total bullshit. I asked him why he thinks that and he can't give an answer. He says he won't believe something just because Elon or Trump said it. He thinks they are just pulling figures out of their ass and people on the right are so brainwashed they just go along with it.
I have no idea how to get through. Seems like he's totally dug in to his worldview and nothing is going to change that. Oh yeah and he works for the government.
This is word for word so very similar to what I experience with my son in law when talking to him about all you listed, but he doesn't work for the government.
Very difficult to get him to believe that illegals are receiving social security or that the fraud is extensive as Elon and his team are telling us it is.
It's very frustrating trying to discuss any of these topics with him...ends up with me getting upset and I had to walk out of the room to cool off. At a loss as to how to make him even consider these issues as reality rather than "the made up numbers" that he thinks are being reported by DOGE.
Trouble is when you do that it looks to them like they won the argument and gives them a chip on their shoulder.
We bring the truth with good will in our hearts, but, if someone does not accept or hear, Jesus suggests shaking the dust off of our feet, and turning around and walking away. People have had more than adequate time to learn the truth. If there is no thirst for the truth, what is the sense in offering the living water?

No, not really in this case because most of the time he is the one walking away...I was recounting (not clear in the post) about what actually had happened yesterday and my daughter (visiting us for a few days) was on a work call and asked what "the loud voices" were about.
You can't fix him because his mind is a locked vault.
I think he wants to be open minded to new opinions, but after considering what I'm saying, he goes back to repeating the Left's views.
He sounds hopeless. Talk about sports with him. Sorry for you. You have a 4-6%-er.
I respect how calm you are with him. It’s really very sad that he is so deceived. But when the truth is finally revealed we still have to be there for these types because they will be so blown away. Pray for his eyes to be opened.
Thanks, though I think that even when "The Reveal" comes it will either send him further into denial or shortcircuit his brain. He would have to reject about 50 years of ingrained programming and adopt a view he's always considered absurd. He seems pretty content to stay where he is.

I don’t have these conversations with friends or family (except husband, daughter & sil) because they think I’m crazy to believe (what we know as truth). All we can do is pray for the in our lives that are denial. My dad is boosted to the max. He stopped getting Covid booster, not because of what I said, the pharmacist said she wasn’t getting anymore, so no more for him. Yet he does medical trials (different types of vaccines) his doctor recommends just to get $50.00 for each shot or phone call. He doesn’t need money, he’s worked hard and saved. It’s about getting something for free. Just as example of his mentality, Outback food & service is at all time low yet he goes for a free onion. He’s 81 and we can see the mental decline over the past couple years. Who knows if it’s vaccine or statins, believes the doctor. I’ll ad you and your brother to my prayers.
