Yes, the property taxes in the NE are just criminal when you look at what it goes to. People up here brag about how good the public schools are, but the average cost per student per year is over $20,000! However, when you look at average SAT scores, the southern school kids actually score higher! (but I just realized it may be because only a fraction of the southern school kids take the SAT, in comparison with the northern schools)
We get that here, but it's not really an exemption from taxes, just an exemption from paying the even higher amount for people who don't live in the house.
The property taxes on many homes now are more than what the houses cost back in the 40's and 50's!

It lowers it a little bit....right direction anyways..Florida is proposing no property tax for retirees
