Because it is pain suffered by Christ, to free us from sin.. He was the Ultimate Sacrifice- through Crucifixion and Stations of the Cross.
Without His crucifixion there is no salvation from our sins. By His stripes we are healed.
Our sins were forgiven at the moment of His death on the cross, not when He rose three days later. The Resurrection is obviously important, it shows that death was defeated, but our sins were cleansed by Our Lord's bloody crucifixion and death.
No crucifixion and death, no resurrection. Simple as.
