I'm in SoCal about 50 miles N of Julian and it gave the house a good crunch. Didn't last long, but it was loud. Anyways, I didn't even know this was a thing - EBS for quakes - and it was weird to get it BEFORE the shaking started

I’m in San Diego ,, funny as soon as I opened the door to my daughters granny flat type room in my yard it happened , I said wth was that, thinking something fell , she said while still reading ,, earthquake , I said oh ok , I thought something fell , I need to take the dogs out Soon and then I’ll be back ,,,,then I realized once I was back in my house ,,, geeze all we been through ,, earthquake was like ,, ok no biggie ! Of course it was just a small rumble ! I’ve been through worse !
The 2010 Easter quake felt stronger, more rolling though. This was quick and abrupt.
Yeah that was a real earthquake with after shocks.
😹 Yeah, we were all pretty "meh" in our responses too. I got away from the house, but at a leisurely pace (which was silly because I remember when Northridge hit and then hit again, and it knocked all of us off our feet from 60 miles away)
Yep northridge , I remember that one too ! We’ve just been through so much , it’s like whatever ,,, more dangerous living with the 2 million El Salvador : Venezuela’s here !
That's the (conservative) CA spirit! :-)
Lol , I know when you think about what we’ve been through ,, oh earthquake ,, whstever , I’m heading out to walk dogs ! There’s probably liberal nut bags still trembling on top of their office desks! I’m So over it !
i was at ground zero for the 1971 san fernando earthquake. northridge was not as big as 71. this julian one was mostly S wave, lots of bouncy and entertaining.
I remember that one - it was lonnnnng
I got it like 10 seconds AFTER - it hit. - it did feel different.
Hmmm. I'm in Poway about 25 miles from the epicenter. Lasted quite a while here. Received the EBS after it stopped.
I am south near the border. Def a abrupt "crunch" of the house. Funny I got the EBS after. Maybe because I'm de-googled lol
Glad you're okay!
Do you have an android phone? ShakeAlert is automatically pushed out to androids in CA , OR, and WA.
https://crisisresponse.google/android-alerts/
By the way, one oddity: my EBS alert said 6.1. The iPhones said 5.6. It's now being called a 5.2
Earthquakes are usually downgraded as time passes.
Yep! Though half the phones in the house are iPhones and we all got the warning BEFORE it happened. Maybe it's because, though we are far from Julian, we are only a half a mile from that faultline?
How far from the epicenter? If at the epicenter you get it as it's starting. The further away from the epicenter you get more notice before you feel it.
Makes sense. We're maybe 40-50 miles NW of Julian It wasn't long, maybe 3 seconds after alert when it hit
I hope the pies are all okay! 🥧🥧
