If I were Secretary Rubio, I would send Van Hollen an invoice for the trip, payable to the family of Rachel Morin. You know, actual Maryland citizens who were harmed by Van Hollen's voting record. Tell him if he doesn't pay, have Tom Homan incarcerate him until he does.
Perusing local FB groups, it's amazing how many people equate this with Trump paying golf. I'm assuming if Trump is not taking a salary, he is also covering expenses for his personal endeavors. And if not, why aren't they as bothered when a Dem president takes personal time? So many people don't even know that Trump and Musk don't take salaries. Sad.
