I think what they're hanging their argument on is this: Due to fear of retaliation by a hostile gang, a judge ordered that Garcia CAN be deported by the US to any incarceration facility BUT any prison in El Salvador. I've never seen any article about Trump admin admitting an error. I can't believe they were ignorant of this ruling but knew it and chose to do it anyway. I'm guessing.
The lawyer representing the administration called it an error, I think. If not those exact words, their words were to that effect.
It's not certain if that lawyer was bad at their job, or trying to throw the case intentionally. Either way, they were fired.
