People have been returning to churches lately so more people are taking their being saved VERY seriously.
I think they are taking it as mocking the Lord. I think Carlin was poking fun at the business of religion vs prayer and fellowship. There are, unfortunately, a lot of churches that are a business first instead of a place of corporate (as a body, not as a "corporation") prayer, praise, Bible study, and fellowship. If a church is more interested in what's in your wallet than what's in your heart, run away!
Very true. I do think Carlin may have had some religious feelings deep down though. He did a pretty good job in the movie Dogma.
It was just a movie and wasn't anything historic, but it was an interesting movie if you (like I was) are looking at different religions and traditions. Most of it was bunk but it had some dogma and doctrine throughout, sprinkled in between the comedy. I wouldn't recommend it for someone that is very religious to the point they would be upset by some of the stuff in the movie, but knowing they took "liberties" with theology going in helps.
It's not "The Passion of the Christ" - but it is funny. I particularly liked the part when Loki went after a big movie studio with a cow mascot (instead of - say - a mouse...).
I attend a Baptist church but listen to 5 or 6 ministers on youtube. They all have different perspectives. One is into gematria for the Bible and he even had Ashton Forbes on as a guest. Another says the Israelis are not Israelites (which I agree with but don't dare utter that at church.) Another says it's OK to "make noises with your mouth" (in other words swear but don't use the Lord's name). I stay clear of those mega church guys. Truth Tide had a good video on the mega church pastors. Absolutely shameful! Carlin was definitely talking about those guys!
