This is almost hilarious. So, at the age of 44, Pete Hegseth is "insanely young" to be Secretary of Defense? I'm old enough to remember Robert McNamara, who made quite a lasting name for himself as Secretary of Defense. I brought him to mind by the similarity of how he combed his hair to the way Hegseth combs his. And do you know how old Robert McNamara was when he entered office? 45 years old. His profession was accounting and statistical control. In World War II, he served on the Air Force planning staff as a Captain but never saw combat. My opinion of McNamara has evolved over the years. I wasn't fond of his program cancellations (Blue Gemini, Dyna-Soar, Manned Orbiting Laboratory) and his facilitation of the Vietnam War, but in other ways he probably made reasonable decisions. One of his signal failures was the attempt to make one airplane serve both Air Force and Navy (the TFX, eventually the F-111A and B). We continue not to learn the lesson of that failure (e.g., the F-35).

Hegseth is okay. Recruitment is way up, on account of the spirit and determination he is bringing to the job. Jerks like this carper don't "get it."
