Not to pop your bubble, but being reminded of positive things can also mean people might be ignoring the good stuff to focus on the negative, a/k/a missing the forest for the trees...

Or, another metaphor is they're holding the dime (i.e., the tiny incremental changes we can easily see, like a few illegals being deported) so close to their eyes, they miss the big pot of gold just beyond.

Here's hoping you can find some positive to cheer you up amid the gloom. Remember, even though things may seem as bad as they can possibly get,...they could always be worse! :)
