Anybody know if gov employees, other than Temp hires, those on probation still or SrExec, are being fired by DOGE?
🧐 Research Wanted 🤔
I’m talking permanent employees who have not taken the buyout. DOGE is at daughter’s agency now. The scuttlebutt she’s getting as they will be fired via email. I just don’t think they can fire or layoff permanent employees. RIF them to new jobs or offer early retirement or buyouts but not just toss them in the streets. Anyone know what’s actually happening.
My understanding is that DOGE just makes recommendations and then the Secretary of the Agency decides how to move forward.
Well thats good to know. I keep telling her it will work something like that.
If they keep one person it should be your daughter.
Thanks. There are/were many good hardworking conscientious gov employees. I was one and so is she. Unfortunately there are also lazy useless ones. Hoping they can do effective weeding and keep the good ones.
They can cut all they want but SES is the true deep state. Execs need to go
This!
Hopefully they are!
They have to follow federal law, a Riff is not automatically a new job, they have to apply for any open positions, and they get a preference over non govt employees of some type. If their are no open positions in their job category, they don't recive anything.....
Right now their is a hiring freeze,so they can only hire current govt employees. I have no idea what your daughter does, but if she expects a riff, she should move first to some agency that isn't getting cuts, now before everyone else.
I went thru 2 RIFs and was offered new jobs both times or either resign. Jobs can be offered from totally different states and you take them or resign. How I ended up in crappy DC. Kinda thought that it would still work that way.
I know some guys who got Riffed in California and moved to oklahoma, but it was the exact same job code. Right now I expect a surplus in many jobs....
It was many years ago, I may have forgot or never learned some details.
yea I don’t know how they’re doing it now. Hopefully not firing via email.
If they have have time in service, and depending on Boxes 23, 24 & 26 on your SF50 you can bump others/stay in your place. isnt it 30% knowledge in another series and you have right boxes checked on sf50, you can bump them too.
Time in service is the best protection against a riff. I assume a lot of job codes don't transfer well to other agency's. Also if your job code is very general, their would be a surplus in that.
Employees need to look closely at their own situation, and not just react to shit on X or facebook.
We received rif notices agency wide, but our status protects us from the rif. We did rehire those probation employees back and recently hired more 1039 max/hr temps.
Our agency makes money and safety though.....typical fines, fees, rulea and regulations agencies should be shitting their pants right now..
thanks!
It sounds like literally any public company doing layoffs.
The gravy train is over, gov shouldn't be a guaranteed life job.
I agree it shouldn't be a guaranteed for life job. However, the government should treat its employees better than most companies. We, the government, should be a model on how to treat employees. This idea that employees are just cogs in a wheel needs to go away. I hate corporate America, and it pains me to see our government going that way as well.
Um, sorry, what's a RIF?
Reduction In Force
I work for the DoD, other than the OPM buyout & the DoD buyout. Nobody has been fired here, Probation folks are still here, we dont have any Term folks. They said a Rif was coming after these buyouts???
Thanks!
A lot of folks took the fork in the road option, mostly those who were going to retire anyway. In some areas more than expected for this round. If you look at the plan, they are gradually creating incentive to leave the fed.
Up next will be reduction in benefits, and an increase in payments for those benefits. The single biggest one for a lot of long timers is the change from High-3 to High-5. Bigger hurdle for a good retirement. A number of younger people in the fed know they will never retire, myself included, it's just a rock in the storm and a front row seat to the show. That dependency will end eventually though.
tl/dr: No more cuts at the moment, looks like incentives in place for voluntary reduction.
Changing people's retirement calculations just before they retire, or taking away their early retirement after they've worked a long time toward it is wrong. It's not republican values - it's not American values. But here we are, with the republicans about to screw over old federal employees - even low level workers like janitors - because they're the current scapegoat.
It's drp/drop 2.0 early retirement/retirement buyout. Then rif. You can be offered a postion somewhere else or bump others. As to doge, unless they close thw who department then she will be the above
Thanks. I’m pretty sure there is lots of bs crap going around and it’s good to hear from those actually in the fray.
Of course they can, like any employee from any business.
They are mostly talking the low hanging fruit because it is easy to take out provisional employees. The other method is to take out the whole organization. Later the Republicans will stop funding positions.
