I periodically check to see if my phone has been adding apps when it self updates.
Today I learned that the TikTock app is almost a Gig. I have never used it and don't recall adding it.
Buhbye ticktock hello free space.
Hopefully things run better now
This is not how proof is done; however I won't argue with the assertion, as I agree, it's most likely spying. App size isn’t a reliable indicator of whether it’s spying on you. Even a tiny app—smaller than your calculator—can be designed to stream your camera feed. It’s not about size; it’s about how the app is built.
For context, I just checked—TikTok is about 150 MB. If it’s using 1 GB on your device, that’s due to your activity within the app, not its runtime size. The runtime component is the bulk of that 150 MB.
The way these apps spy on you is much more different than you realize. Usually it's not done on a hardware/software level; rather information is sent to a server for processing and storage.
Lol, yea. I read the title and giggled because OP is correct, but for absolutely the most incorrect reason possible lmao
Sloppy code? When most apps are in the tens of megs... Why is commie all 900megs?
The dude before me explained it pretty well... The ACTUAL file size is roughly 150 megs. The inflated size due to your activity within the app, or that the app pulls from the internet. It very likely pre-loads content for you so videos "load faster"
So I have never used the ticktock app and it is 900MB. Every other app is 50MB or smaller.
That is quite the discrepancy...
Using the app or not makes no difference if it's preloading content for you to watch when you open the app. It's called a data chache, or a video cache.
Again, your over the mark, just not for the right reason. You don't need a massive app size to steal your info. I can make an application right now that on the surface is a 50mb file, but requires permissions so it can see your emails, phone contacts, text messages, GPS data, etc... And you'd see an app that has about 50mb, not 900...
For reference, get Outlook, the email application... It stores emails locally offline so you can see emails offline... This makes the outlook app, a simple emailing app, about 3 gigabytes for me, because I work a lot and receive 100s of emails a day. Same concept at work.
They're both spying on me, but neither due to their file size... I can make a calculator that requires access to your call logs, contacts, emails, etc... Stores it, and sells it to data collection companies, And it'd be like 50 megs... You don't need a lot of code to spy on someone.
I just installed Instagram but I confess that I don't understand how to use it. I receive endless notifications that someone I follow has posted a video (which is a "short" that doesn't interest me). But what am I supposed to do - post my own "short"? I have better things to do.
Goodbye Instagram.
Social media is terrible. At the very least it should be 18+ only. The biggest time-suck known to mankind.
Its only use is to weaponize the masses.
Here we are now... Entertain us.
I have it but don't use it. My last 'post' was like 5 years ago. I have one friend that will periodically send me funny videos. Other than that, I turned notifications off.
I think if you have a FB account, you kind of have a default IG account? I am not sure, but I know what you mean because I get the same thing.
Every app, service, and freebie from any of the major tech companies is Spyware. They basically make all their money from selling ads and personal data. How could Google, apple facebook, and others make so much money otherwise? It's never the users spending any money. It's ads and data.

Well, every video and image you look as has to be downloaded. You can clear the cache on Android but not iPhone you have to delete and reinstall. — IT-Anon
But I have never used ticktock
Whenever the computer updates, I just assume it's adware or spyware. And the ads seem to compete as to how offensive they can be. GAW is actually the only "social" media I use (besides email).
Everything is spyware. Did you know that the only thing that keeps JCPenney afloat is selling your information. They make more off that than they do on retail. And the same is true with everything. Why do you think all these apps are free?
Its the phone companies and wireless carriers that really make bank. You pay exorbitant fess for them to sell your shit. Thats why they will give you a free phone to change carriers.
None of this shit is new.
So penny for your thoughts has a current meaning?!?!
