Cult is just short for “culture”.

They gave the word a negative connotation so they could hit people over the head with it.

So, yes, but we should stop letting them tell us what our language means.

honestly as much as I disagree with them the one advantage is they did spread the word of Jesus Christ throughout the whole world.. and what people do with that it's up to them but they did really help spread the gospel throughout the world like in Southeast Asia.
