Moving only 1,500 out of 11,000 from D.C.??? I say disband the entire FBI, return Federal Law Enforcement to the Marshals like it was before the CRIMINALS created the FBI as their private "cover-up" agency. BTW, Marshals are ELECTED, not APPOINTED!
It is my understanding that US Marshals are appointed by the President and approved by the Senate. Under Article II of the Constitution the President and Vice President are the only offices in the Executive Department subject to election.

You're right, I was thinking of Sheriffs.
Sheriffs have tremendous power. Descendant of British law. The Sheriff was the Kings Law.
The marshals would have to inflate their numbers to pick up the workload.
