29 palms is a base in the middle of a desert. Theres one main chow hall, 1 exchange, a pond of shit water, and a shitload of bored/angry Marines. Lots of units cycle thru 29 palms before they deploy as it has the bandwidth and terrain requirements for training.
I stayed there for 3 months before deploying with 3/7 to Afghanistan. I am certain 2/7 are a bunch of dogs without a bone. Best of luck to the agitators is all I can say. Our weakest Marine on deployment could destroy 99% of all Taliban fighters in hand to hand combat, I'll just say that.
Can vouch, was in 29 stumps for 6 months, made friends with a guy in the 2/7 who was quite possibly the toughest man in Commiefornia back then. 3rd degree black belt in Judo and only ended up a Marine because he almost paralyzed a guy in a bar picking a fight with him. Dude happened to be a dumb, drunk off duty cop. Judge offered him the option of jail or the Corps.
His wife finally allowed him to go out drinking with us telling us we were making a huge mistake... she was right. Bunch of jocks happened to be staying in a motel ended up mouthing off. Entire football team surrounded him and it began. 200lb jocks flying through the air, arms snapping, guys screaming and the ground littered with unconscious kids. He gets to us, laughing, covered in blood, winks and runs back through the mob repeating this with even more intensity.
While me and my brother are watching paramedics haul off literally dozens of jocks we're lying to the cops saying we didn't know who or what caused this our friend is now talking to them too... showered, clean clothes and not a scratch on him. Crazy fucker humpped 4 miles home, cleaned up and returned calm and cool. We found out why Tony was only allowed to drink in the garage under his wife's supervision.
Tony by himself could take care of a few hundred rioters, imagine a thousand Tony's deployed to LA.
I know some SEALs who would leave that fucker alone even if he provoked them... literally. Semper Fi, hoorahh... I was Navy side though, was just visiting my jarhead brother. We both scored too high on the ASVAB to see combat but he lied to go kill in Iraq... life's a bitch
Did two training exercises at the stumps with 1/7 when the 7th Marines were still at Mateo. We would leave desert training and go straight into cold weather training in Bridgeport CA. I suspect 2/7 got the call because 1/7 is in Oki on rotation.
Give ‘em hell brothers! Semper Fi 🇺🇸
FYI…..Chesty Puller was part of the 7th Marines Regiment during WWII
Once upon a time, I body checked a Marine Colonel into an expanding wall and he thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. I couldn’t believe that they had never heard of the game of Crud.
You're a Marine? I am married to one. His father was a China Marine. He tried to reup for WWII. Had a heart murmur so couldn't. Joined the Army. Spent part of the war in Patton's 3rd.
I spent time at 29 Stumps in the early 80s, you don't have any idea about heat, unless you've spent time in the desert. You won't sweat, you'll just develop salt rings around your armpits. You're ready to go anywhere else but here. God save those who would get in the way!
My opinion is, these Marines are at this point protecting federal buildings, but when the Insurrection Act is activated, woe to those rioters.
We did live fire ranges in 120 plus. When you're prone, trying to stay on your elbow and toes, the sand is so hot that the brass going down your sleeve actually feels cool.

You'd like my husband's library. He's also a Civil War buff. He took me to Andersonville in podunk Georgia on our honeymoon. No words for that one.
I'm blessed that I work with SNCOs at 29P and PEN.
Simply the greatest people to surround yourself with. I feel honored every day to be around them and the support staff, too.
3rd LAR oohrah
Release the Dogs of War!!!

29 Palms. Where the question “Would you fire on U.S. citizens?” was included in a test the military used in the 90’s.
