This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.

The closer I feel to God, the less I can communicate with others in social situations. I become tongue tied, nodding my head and smiling like a goon. I keep seeing articles and what not about the dangers of isolating for older people. I do not feel lonely, now granted, my adult son lives with me, and we both care for a man with severe disabilities in our home, we contract with an agency to provide care, he is part of the family after 15 years. But I am content with that. I do not recluse myself because of politics, or whatever, but when I am in the garden or walking with my dog, or driving to the nearby lake and beach to let him swim and retrieve, I am friendly, but I do not feel one drop of longing for socialization. My inner conversations with God is the most important thing, never lonely, never feel like I am missing out. I spoke about this with a pastor once, and he said that solitude was good for prayer and contemplation , but that Jesus was found among others. I don't know about that. Anyone else feel this way? I am kind to people, kind to animals, but I do not need that stimulation from others, as a matter of fact, it is distracting.
I only really interact with my wife. I don't really need people that much
But think of this, between your actual live in family, this Q board and your prayers your mind and emotions get the stimulus they need
Don't worry about what your pastor says. You know your own emotional state better than he does. Some people who are extroverts simply can not comprehend that not everyone on this planet loves to be around other people. I find it exhausting and tedious asf to be around most other people.
Unless your pastor has some sort of valid training in psychology or behavioral therapy and has discussed these issues with you for hours on hand so they can truly assess your emotional needs, all they're doing is holding up a mirror in front of their face when talking to you, and pretending to see YOU and YOUR needs when they are really only seeing themselves.

Thank you, he is no longer my pastor by the way, we were talking after church and I was telling him how much going on a silent retreat was my cup of tea for a holiday. Yes, I am an introvert, Which I did not realize up till the last few years, and I clearly remember my youth when I would force myself to mingle.
