An article (from the UK-based daily mail) about ICE arrests gave an estimate of 38% of L.A. being from foreign countries. They didn't separate legal from illegal in that number, but it also said 1 in 10 workers statewide were likely illegal.
True numbers are probably impossible to figure, given that the entire demographic survives by hiding.
Unfortunately, they allowed them to stay here and not learn ENGLISH. I got new carpet installed and the two hard working men, contracted by a legit business, didn't speak English. I have empathy for them as they've been used as pawns, but I want them here legally and they must learn our language.
If they are here it should be legal, but I don't want mass immigration even if it were legal. I'd much prefer for Mexico (and Central and South America) to be fixed so they didn't feel a need to come at all.
Even in the case of the best, most civic-minded immigrants, none of them come without competing for jobs or benefits (or both!) against locals. Kids in high school have trouble getting summer jobs because all the low-level jobs are hoovered up by illegals, working while getting food stamps. Oh well, that's what we've lived through: it's being fixed now.
I'm in favor of closing down immigration in 99% of cases until we have deported at least ten million illegals and fully secured our borders.
The 1% can be a bone tossed to people who, in an internet era, are finding relationships at long distance as is sadly becoming more common but considering the younger women in the U.S. are getting closer to 10% who have OnlyFans accounts...
