Im not arguing against this but i always assume that they just grabbed whatever random story they thought would generate attention and ran with it. That's why everytime it turns out that the cops were right. But since they never show anyone the corrections, the useful idiots craft their hive thought around it. At the same time, the exact thing being murmured happens too. I've just accepted that we will never know the full truth about anything.
I was around when lampshades and soap were the narrative. Every school kid read about Hitler's habit of having women pee on him. My brother read the whole thing.
Someone called David Irving - a most widely cited PhD historian, with lots of history books based on archival records, which he would travel to seek out, started looking into the subject.
Yeah, he was thrown in prison.
Also, his life's work on the life of Hitler, was used in the movie Downfall <that meme-source. LOL. And go watch it again, to see what really happened. Mostly. But the producers and diretors stayed pretty close to Irving's book. Closer to the truth, than ALL WAR MOVIES. Bravo Germany.
Because That movie was based on historical sources. So now you know. It truly, but symbolically marked the downfall of all those 20thC narratives. [I'll leave you to connect the ramification dots). The name even suggests it, stupid: It's a downfall of the lies - the story even hammers the point, of a collapse of shattered lies, and the resultant blood sweat and tears in senior leadership: Hitler had been lied to by the people he trusted, whe were not wanting to hurt his feelings, ... to cover up the collosal losses. He had up to that point, confidently assumed he had all these troops and machines to conquer the world, but the Soviets had other plans. And that continued, up-the-chain lie, only became more monstrous in time, as Ukraine/Poland started burning dead emaciated bodies IRL, and the Allies start signalling their heroic landing: we then witness HH's downfall: made him seem completely powerless and freaking out, high on meth, like an insane person, much memed. It is painful to watch, and yet.
Thank you, David Irving for your work, even as he is supposedly antisemitic and verboten to read. I can hear some howls. Also, there is a not so subtle moral of the story: DON'T LIE - if they had told the truth that the Sviets were a wall of death, do not enter this lebensraum, or 'corridor for the JEw to be transported to Israel' or whatever. (YEah those death camps were meant to be collection points for futher travel, while the army 'opened up' the rail).
For further research, I recommend A Bridge too Far which, is kind of the contemporary story told from civilian, and army views, and was also based on true historical sources and first-hand witness acoounts. There is a whole community online, pawing over all the details, with witness profiles and edits from the cutting floor, and one can even find interviews, if you really want to know. If that movie feels a little disjointed and super-long and sad, it's because it is the result of lots of people's stories kntted together, not a proper movie script at all - no crafting of narratives..
