Agreed. It made a lump in my throat. Also, it made me think about how those pilots died - to transport the lend-lease weapons from USA to the Soviet Union. Of course, they worked under fire...it was a world war. Those pilots not only died for Russia, but also for world peace, without the military strength from an insanely racist, murderous, but technologially ocmpetent Japan.
Krainer mentioned today that WW2's end, for Japan, came because Russia was getting ready to invade Japan, (with lend-lease weapons?) after mowing through Japanese troops 'on the mainland'. Considering who he is, where he is, that he is the first Russian head of state to visit their graves, that he knelt before each one and made the sign of the cross... and considering their sacrifice made so long ago... very, very moving. An act of love, an acknowledgment of God... we need so much more of this. Russia and the US need to be the best of friends and the closest of allies forever.
