He probably got a "special invitation" from JP Morgan himself /s. You just CAN'T disrupt the most profitable part of banking (slavery). By the way, lots of orphans likely created with Titanic event.

There actually were no orphans created as a result of the sinking. In large part due to the actions of Titanic's Male passengers and Crew. Most of whom would not survive the sinking. Many of the crew dying at their stations. Launching Lifeboats, Working Pumps and doing what they could to buy Titanic even a single minute. Alongside Male Passengers. Only 20% of the men onboard would survive. Many of them being passengers.
All living Children pulled from the wreck would have at least 1 living parent. Most often the Mother. The only Children from the wreck initially considered ‘Orphans’ actually weren’t. Their father kidnapped them from the Mother. Following the sinking they’d be reunited with their Mother. Their fathers last act being securing them a place in a lifeboat.

And W.T Stead booked the passage himself having been invited to speak at a Peace Conference at Carnegie Hall by William Howard Taft. In regards to the degrading Political situation in Europe. He reportedly handed over his life jacket to another passenger and assisted in launching the boats. He was last spotted alive clinging to debris with John Jacob Astor. Neither man would survive. And W.T Stead’s body would not be recovered.
Good info. Smart, God-fearing crew following pro-human protocols, even in face of death. Most impressive, high-quality humans there sacrificed by very evil people.
JP Morgan part of comment was sarcastic, but that is interesting "spotted with JJA". Poor guys surely froze to death unnecessarily with other ships nearby may have saved many with proper notification immediately after collision. Sad.
Titanic started blasting distress signals at 12:15am. She collided about 11:40pm.
Several Dozen ships heard them and put about driving full speed for Titanic. They however were anywhere from dozens up to 150 miles away. And were mostly older and far slower vessels. Cargo Haulers, Tankers, a handful of aging passenger Steamers. Even if they’d started transmitting exactly the moment they hit. It’s not likely to have changed much. Only vessels nearby, relatively speaking, were older and far slower.
And the nearby ship that could have feasibly responded in time to save the Passengers was SS Californian. The Californian didnt have the crew complement to keep a full watch at night. Was on the other side of the Icefield they had somewhat ironically warned Titanic about earlier that night. And their wireless operator was asleep. Leaving them unaware of the extent of what was going on.
Though several repeated investigations by both the Royal Navy, U.S Navy, and Merchant Mariners Association of the events of the night. Resulted in the Californians Officers and Captain being labeled as incompetent. But stopped short of recommending Criminal Charges. As there was other factors at play and that it likely would have been a miracle for the Californian to have reached the Titanic in time to avert the loss of life. Even if they knew the full extent of the tragedy unfolding. Reportedly the Californians Captain was haunted by that night until the day he died.
Carpathia the first and closest vessel to actually reach the survivors was reportedly pulling close to 17 knots. Her maximum speed was supposed to be 14. The Captain allegedly ordered excess weight tossed overboard, deck furniture to be broken up to feed the furnace and stretch out their coal, and pushed Carpathias boilers till they were in danger of exploding.
And Carpathia was far from the only one to push its engines to the breaking point. Several ships that responded needed repairs as their Captains pushed their ships to the breaking point trying to reach Titanic. One German Steamer S.S Frankfurt was 120 miles away and raced through the night and into the afternoon of the next day trying to reach Titanic believing themselves the closest to respond. But a ship like the Frankfurt maximum speed was 13 knots. Which translates to about 15 mph. Carpathia was only marginally faster than Frankfurt at 14 knots. And 17 knots they reportedly reached that night was about 19mph.
The night was a tragedy in more ways than one. No shortage of people raced to help. But they were too far away and limited by their tools to avert the Tragedy.
