The first few chapters of Acts reads a lot like communism, too.
Enormous difference between Acts (specifically chapter 2) and Communism.
Acts was talking about people voluntarily giving up possessions (for the betterment of the early church), and each person had the ability to stop if they saw that it was being misused (or if they were being taken advantage of).
It was all voluntary and necessary because Jesus did not have a physical headquarters and needed to travel all over the place. So His disciples decided to sell all their belongings to be able to go around planting churches. It was a unique period of time.
But yes I do believe the Catholic church uses those verses to guilt unlearned people into giving up their property...
They should start with their own perhaps?
Not really, they had all things common because they trusted God as their source of supply and not a secular government. Plus whats mine is not yours biblicallly unless i decide by my free will to give it to you.
Eph says, but my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in flory in Christ Jesus. Covers both the spiritual and physical.
