Thanks for the kind words, PNW. It helps me understand from where he is "coming from" when talking about God. For whatever reason this kid really likes me. I'm becoming like a father figure to him and we get along very well. Maybe by my inquisitiveness into his background and understanding of his family life I can figure out how to touch his heart so he won't make horrible mistakes in the future. I'm not too worried about his rushing to accept God TOMORROW or something like that, I just want him to figure out that God exists and with Him this young man can have a fabulous life. I wish and hope God works in his life.
If it helps any.. when there’s a man drawn sitting in the clouds, that’s more like “Zeus depicted, but intended to be God”. It’s a false image, and it does seem to create issues for some people.
Whether my take is right or not, tbd, but my understanding is that God is everything - existence, life, agency, and righteousness - but nothing is God. The classical way to know Him is by His principles and His salvific unmerited favor, and the manifestation of His promises. The new way to learn parts of Him, specifically His existence, is by witnessing the spiritual death and rudderless chaos that thrives in His absence.

I like this sentence, a lot. Sometimes we need to hit rock bottom before we see the sunlight at the top of the rim. God is always there, waiting patiently for us to see Him, we just need to get over our pride and learn about His love for us.
Get him to read "The Conscious Universe" by that great American scientist Dean Radin. The book will appeal to his intelligence and get him at least halfway there.
