I hope they succeeded. Older software engineer here who has watched our industry get destroyed by the universities that don’t teach, lazy students who shouldn’t ever be engineers, and immigration.
I ran into a young engineer last year who was wildly talented and self-motivated, who had to go into civil service because he could not get a job. Our system is broken!
The ones that graduate have skills, but so much coding philosophy stuck in their heads that they write terrible convoluted code that gets worse the more they try to fix it. The concept of simple and easy to manage code tailored to the application is lost on them. This is coming from a guy who has written plenty of code over the years, but was never a SW engineer. Hell, they would argue with me over it - I've been told "you write bad code", Does it work? Yes, Is it simple and easy to understand? yes. What's wrong with it? Bad coding style. WTF does that mean? Umm, ah, just the wrong way to write code. What is the right way? You wouldn't understand.

Anyway, you get the idea.
Our education system has been hijacked. They tell you what to think, not how to think.
