Oh then we're probably talking about two different events.

I was thinking about evidence of flood damage on the Giza sphinx.

I'm not knowledgeable enough to comment on how long it has been since Jesus, but I have heard a theory that it was actually closer to 1000 years and historians made up a lot of history to fill the gap. I don't know what to make of that one.
