I didn't say "like the Matrix". I'm talking about the spirit behind it. Aka, a positive spiritual force that is sharing the sense that the 'reality' we are told we are living in is a facade.
I'm sure, story wise, there is no similarity to the Matrix. But, if there are good forces seeking to wake people up to the Lies, they would support both films, I suspect. (Even though I've never seen TL).
They Live is a classic. It was for a time available for free on YouTube (years ago) along with another, Harrison Bergeron, which is also a must watch dystopian nightmare from the 90s. Now I think it's an amc+ property.
The acting is a bit stymied (what do you expect from rowdy Rodney piper, he was a wrestler first and goremost) but on the plus side the story of They Live is perfection.
Short summary: country is basically socialist, with unions controlling who works and who doesn't in blue collar jobs. Bloke is struggling to find work then finds these sunglasses that show him that the reality we see is a subversion. Underneath that reality is what is being told to all: obey, consume, stay asleep, and similar messages. The glasses also show who is human and who is one of them.
But memetically speaking, I always feel like this meme needs to be inverted.
THe guy sees the false reality while wearing the sunglasses - a metaphor for the brainwashing and gaslighting that the Mockingbird Media etc have groomed citizens to wear, day in day out.
But when he takes them off, he sees the reality with his real eyes. His true eyes.
You don't need a special set of lenses to see the truth. You need unfiltered direct sight to see the truth, and they try to block this (by manipulating the population into wearing the glasses.
But I dunno. Maybe in the original film, he needs a special set of glasses to see reality? I prefer to see with my real eyes, and not their lenses. So, in terms of our current world, the metaphor of taking off their lens works better, I think. Even though that might be at odds with the original context.
The only problem is that doesn't work for people who are familiar with the origin of the meme, the movie They Live, about a world that has been taken over by aliens that hide all their control in plain sight and the only way to see the truth behind it is to wear the special glasses, that is until the end when the main characters destroy the control mechanism and cause a great awakening, exposing everything to everyone.
I was in the UK and Germany on a family business trip in the late Spring. I brought two flash drives (memory sticks) filled with memes critical of these two governments. I posted a few myself in each country using multiple VPNs and left the rest with family and friends who were frustrated by their government. When I returned home to the USA, few were posted, I believe out of fear. Recently, I have seen many old and new ones being posted and the device of origin being untraceable.
Think before you post. If your not sure if you should call them commies or fuktards,go with commie fuktards.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
They Live was a documentary.
Never saw this film. Sounds like it comes from a similar spirit to the Matrix.
Not even like the Matrix. It's one of those simple movies, clean but hits hard.
A must see. From 1988.

You are correct. In their own way they both make a point that there is great deception out there while people are asleep.

This clip gives you the baseline of what those glasses are all about: https://youtu.be/yjw_DuNkOUw?si=Kxg2aRhMNirKP2PR
This will be you the whole time...

Basically a group of Shapeshifting (non-reptilian) extraterrestrials have infiltrated humanity and hide behind "disguises no one knows."
In the movie, they have created a sort of matrix of mind control they use to rule over humanity.
The phrase "I've come to kick ass and chew bubblegum, and I'm all out of bubblegum" COMES FROM THE MOVIE "THEY LIVE."
Way too true.

Excellent meme, tho. Typical WBC.

Yeah. True.
So, context is the key, and for those that are familiar with the origin, the meme works well (I suppose).
What if millions of Brits posted and kept posting? Would they prioritize? What are they going to do? Tyrranize the citizenry? They’re doing it anyway.
