Hoping to be confirmed by next year. I am a former Protestant. Raised Presbyterian. Sola Fide and Sola Scriptura just aren’t supported by scripture and the Eucharist is the blood and body of Jesus Christ.
Here’s a hot take that will piss off a lot of people here. I could argue that the Protestant reformation was the most destructive event in Western Civilization and opened the flood gates of sin as the inevitable result of Sola Scriptura is the fake and gay Protestant Churches we see everywhere now. I mean the Church of England for example is a disaster now. Also with the millions of people killed in wars like the 30 years war. Also with the war on beauty that Protestants started. Protestants also started the war on the SACRAMENT of marriage. I capitalized that on purpose cause marriage is a sacrament.
I have gotten a lot of crap from people on here and in real life mostly older people for coming to Catholicism but young people like me are done with Pastor Bob worshipping Israel or woke watered down churches. We want the Eucharist, we want tradition, we want reverence and beauty. That’s why Gen Z and millennials are coming to Catholicism and Orthodoxy in droves.
We look at this world of chaos and start looking for the truth and we find that the decline of beauty, the moral decline, the disaster of secularism etc all traces back to the Protestant Reformation and it’s consequences. By undermining the authority of the Church it broke the unity that European’s had. Which the enemies of Christ and the Church (Zionists, Free masons, Marxists etc.) took advantage of.
Not pissed off, but still think you're mistaken. Even in the most charitable ant-protestant take, the reformation kicked the Catholic church into badly-needed internal reforms that would not have happened without it.
And as for the abandonment of beauty: as much as the Catholics' millennia of accumulated beauty is worth treasuring, they have plenty of blandly hollow and overly commercial junk in their art collection as well. The hymn "Amazing Grace" has probably brought more people into sincere lives of prayer than the Sistine Chapel, as marvelous as the painted work is.
I wish you well as a Catholic, and I sincerely respect Catholic believers and priests, the majority of whom lead exemplary moral lives, but pissing on the legacy of Protestantism as a whole is mistaken. It appears to be a cherry-picking approach that overlooks large swathes of the Roman Catholic legacy that are equally deserving of scorn. Blessings and congratulations on your upcoming confirmation.
Most Protestants have no idea what we believe and that the sacraments and what not are backed by scripture. I have spent two years looking into to Orthodoxy, Catholicism and Protestantism. And the Catholic Church is the Church founded by Jesus Christ
Sola Scriptura isn’t even backed by scripture. And when Protestants complain about woke churches sorry but that is the CONSEQUENCE of the reformation.
