To be clear, I don't think any of these green comets referenced in the OP are going to hit us, but other much smaller ones are going to be coming from the direction of the Sun and will "make the news."
Fun fact: When a space rock is approaching earth from the direction of the sun, we cannot see it coming until the last moment.

Green comets bring to mind the classic apocalyptic sci-fi story "Day of the Triffids", where nearly all of the Earth's population is struck blind by a night-time display of bright green comets. This disaster, coupled with the loss of control over deadly bioengineered "Triffid" carnivorous plants that were being cultivated as a source of oil, leads to the collapse of modern human civilization.
