Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Rules For the rest of the Site also accessible on the sidebar.

A math trick with a message. Penn Gillette is quoted as saying that the worst kind of magic is math magic. You decide if he’s correct. Grab a calculator and pick any positive number you want. This trick will not work with negative numbers or zero. But you can pick a small number, a large number, a decimal, a fraction, and even an irrational number like pi, e, or the square root of an imperfect square like 3.
When I say your number, I mean the number that you picked in the beginning. Be sure to hit the equal sign after each operation.
To start, take your number and multiply it by itself.
Next, subtract your number.
Next, add 1.
Next, subtract your number again.
Next, do the square root of the number you finished with in the previous step.
Next, add 5.
Next, subtract your number a third time.
Stop. The number in your calculator is 4 if you followed my directions correctly.
Now, why did I show you this trick? You could have picked any number across the positive numeric system and still finished with 4. We are people across the human spectrum that are all working toward one goal. The freedom of all mankind from an evil cabal that has been trying to rule over all mankind for centuries. We have frens in all 50 states working toward this goal just as all numbers picked eventually converged to the same number. We also have people across several nations who are trying to free their brothers and sisters from the tyranny that is their government. All of us here are working toward the positive conclusion of this mission.
WWG1WGA!
Also, I purposely picked a trick that doesn’t work with negative numbers and zero. We have no negatives and no zeros working toward this mission. The negatives and the zeros are the shills trying to disrupt the work that God gave us to do for such a time as this.
(x*x - 2x + 1) = (x-1) * (x-1)
When you did the square root, you got x-1. Subtracting x and adding 5 will make it 4.
You know your algebra.
Four!

yesssss, Kama[B]la knocked out!
if someone passes this the math trick on to Dan Scavino for the next time Pres. Trump tees off…
Seems to me the 1 and the 5 are important in this.
Interesting! And a moral to the story at the end, wonderful.
