Yes the refs as well as magnets in balls and stickums on gloves. Watch Brian Tuohy videos and many others on YT if you can. When you watch a couple, they will start to make sense to you how it's been done.
Plus the NFL has been changing penalties and rules to sissify the game, like "roughing the passer". I watched a game where one player laid his hands on the side of the QB's helmet while in motion. The QB has already thrown the ball and the hand was planted soon after, but like a slap. It was called for a "roughing the passer" penalty. I was like C'mon! That's a VERY, VERY mild slap! That team went on to win the game by a few points, even with them being the favorite to win the game. At the beginning of the game, they were losing by a couple of points and it was nearing half time, just like what happened to the Baltimore Ravens v. SF 49ers in the Super Bowl game and the Atlanta Falcons v. New England Patriots Super bowl.
So it's quite clear they had to adjust the rules to "fit" the circumstance that happened, so they can call the "appropriate" penalty to fix the game.
Rule changes to increase scoring and make it safer for star players is fine.
It's the ability to choose winners/ loses, over/ unders, who gets the yards/ points is the issue. With legalized gambling sports need to be viewed legally as a fair game not entertainment that can be rigged (like it currently is, like the WWE)
How could they rig NFL games? Refs? To many players on the field, unless it's the QBs/kickers
How could they rig NBA games? Refs and players? Likely both
How could they rig MLB games? Umps and Players? Could be both
How could they rig NHL games? Refs and players? Could only be Refs
