Monopolies were telling the people to vote for McKinley, saying there would be no jobs for them next week if Bryan won. Monopolies paid others a small bribe to vote for McKinley. They also had the foremen run voting booths, so they could intimidate their own employees with threats of firing, beatings or wage cuts. Carnegie, Rockefeller, Vanderbilt, and I think Morgan cooked up that scheme.
