67 year old mother had a double mastectomy 2 weeks ago to remove a 1.3 cm tumor from her left breast
Dr's said they got the tumor and took 3 lymph nodes and they looked okay.
fast forward 2.5 weeks and they get pathology reports. Dr. saying they got the tumor but due to her having a certain gene (I believe) BRCA2 they still want her to do 4 rounds of chemo. she is distraught as she was under the impression if she got the double mastectomy, she would not need radiation or chemo.....
is this normal or any ideas to alternatives like IVM/FENBEN would help instead of chemo?
Unfortunately this is often recommended. Of course it's not good, let alone necessary. There have been numerous studies showing that chemo is a net negative in all cases. Oncologists won't tell you that, though; you really have to look for it.
I'm on the train of "cancer is a metabolic condition that can be reversed with diet and lifestyle changes," with symptoms and tumors taking time to resolve after the changes are made. So my personal recommendation is a carnivore or keto diet and plenty of electrolytes (i.e., salts) instead of the anti-parisitics. But the toughest part by far is conquering the fear instilled by Oncology Inc. and the decision to leave the pharm paradigm.
If their contradictory guidance (mastectomy = no chemo needed versus their oops! Just kidding! rugpull) won't get her to question it, you'll have a tough time. Sending prayers your way.
I'd probably do both: anti-parasitics (IVM/FENBEN) and diet/lifestyle change.
Sounds odd. Ask for the pathology reports, see if they found any cancerous cells. You’re going to have to do the research and legwork for your mom’s health. You can always say no, it’s her body, her choice. You can also say, we’d like to wait and see if her bloodwork shows signs of cancer in x amount of weeks. Chemo is really hard on the body and kills both good and bad cells. I would definitely look into all of the alternatives before chemo.
she has the PALB2 mutation gene
i dont understand why the chemo is being pushed even after they got all the cancer in the mastectomy
Personally, if it were my mom, and the bloodwork didn’t show any elevated white blood cell count, and the pathology report said no cancer, I wouldn’t do it. I would watch it closely.
Starve that cancer beast with zero sugar, that feeds it.
big pharma gonna big pharma
just give them all your money
NO! At her age she should have had the lump cut out and that's the end of it!
As u/SilverGolfer says, big pharma gonna big pharma. To young ladies they tell them "better do it now to ensure a long life without the fear" and to anyone over 40 they say "your childbearing years are past, you have no need of them now." They have a script for every demographic, every age, every situation. Like a trained car salesman. I've been in the room to watch them work. (That's not why I was there; I was there to support my wife.) It's exactly like the high-pressure tactics when the dealership calls in you in with the sales manager to close the deal. Except there's no shiny car at the end, only a shiny promise of a life without the particular fear they push.
It's hard to rank shades of wrongdoing, but honestly the ones who cut off the breasts of the young ones before they have a chance to have children, to me, is a more outrageous sin.
