Think about the liberals who fiercely hate POTUS and then they receive two grand in the mail. How much do you believe their attitudes towards POTUS might change? They might say, "Hmmmm, we had democrat control of the House and Senate AND a dem POTUS and we still didn't get a $2K refund/rebate/handout. Yet the illegals got everything!"
This might be a play for the hearts and mind of middle of the road libs.

I believe it may make a difference for some. It is bread and butter issues, which is always what the majority of voters decide on. The checks would be a validation that the President needs badly, among normies. It would be proof that his tariffs do benefit the USA, not in some abstract way, but directly. People hearing that millions and billions are being saved do not believe it if they are paying about 2k extra a year for almost everything. 2k is a pittance to the wealthy, they probably drop that on a weekends worth of entertainment or travel. The rest of us notice when coffee and pasta go up. I do buy cases of some imported foods, mostly tomatos and pasta and coffee, because the quality is better and they are not pouring round up on their crops like we are
But that’s kinda my point — people are already paying the price for these tariffs, every time they check out at the store. Tariffs don’t make foreign countries cut us a check — they make the cost of imported goods higher here, and that gets passed on to us. So if the government then turns around and sends out $2k “refunds,” that’s not proof the tariffs worked. It’s basically giving people back a fraction of what they already paid in higher prices.
It’s like paying $5 for a loaf of bread that used to cost $3, and then being told you’re getting “free money” when they hand you back a dollar.
If this was really about proving the tariffs benefit the U.S., we’d be seeing more affordable domestic production by now — not record import prices and companies still offshoring. The math doesn’t match the message.
At some point, calling it a refund doesn’t change the fact we’re just paying ourselves back with our own money.

I just went to look at what the "average" low and middle income families got from those covid stimulus checks all together (there were multiple rounds) and the numbers I'm getting was around $5,000.
