Because she was an owned asset who could be relied on to suppress and divert attention away from the people who own her, when that time inevitably comes.
I'm getting the feeling maybe even the majority of committee appointments are this way.

I will bet that the residents of the Virgin Islands knew something was going on at that island. It's a small community. Also, she sounds like she has dry mouth which is a normal bodily reaction to stress and fear. (Scared spitless is a much used descriptor of the condition because it's real.)
Plaskett, a non-voting Democrat Delegate who represents the US Virgin Islands, took to the House floor to defend herself.
Stacey Plaskett claimed that she did not know Epstein was under federal investigation at the time she was communicating with him back in 2019.
“I got a text from Jeffrey Epstein, who at the time was my constituent. It was not public knowledge at that time that he was under federal investigation,” she said.
What about the time Epstein was charged in 2008, he pleaded guilty to procuring a child for prostitution and served 13 months in jail. As a federal official from Virgin Islands, where Epstein Island was located, shouldn't you have refrained from taking money from him and engaging in series of personal text messages from a pedophile?
This ridiculous attempt to defend herself only makes her look worse.

The last twenty six years have been really hard on her. She looks to be a sloppy mess, possibly from the overwhelming guilt she is feeling.
She communicates with epstein and likely gave him secrets. She cant even be given a clearance.
